Living Word Lutheran Church | The Woodlands, Texas

A master planning study and needs assessment resulting in a three-phase scheme

Living Word Lutheran Church had a small existing facility of about 21,000SF located on approximately four acres in The Woodlands. The congregation had grown significantly, and the existing two-story multipurpose building could not support the anticipated growth of worship, education and preschool needs. RHA was commissioned to complete a master planning study and needs assessment to determine the capacity of the site to support expansion. The master planning exercise resulted in a three-phase scheme. Phase I included a worship center for 550, a 30-person chapel and music suite; Phase II is a new 2-story education/fellowship building; and Phase III is the renovation of the existing structure. The sanctuary structure is organized around historic traditional principles dictating orientation, sequence and affinities but rendered in a contemporary form with extensive natural light and vistas into adjacent garden areas.
